1. App Overview & Native Engine Architecture

QuixiCloud Auto Sync for Android is engineered from the ground up as a specialized, high-performance background backup engine ("The Engine"). Unlike generic web wrappers or Electron ports, it is built 100% natively in Kotlin with modern Jetpack Compose, Material 3, Android Room database persistence, and Android WorkManager with an isolated foreground MirrorService.

The Mobile App: The Engine

Optimized exclusively for raw, unthrottled, uncompressed media backups, instant MediaStoreObserver change detection, and cryptographic integrity. Zero background bloat.

Web & Desktop: The Suite

Heavy document editing, 4K streaming transcoders, and code editors are reserved for Web and Desktop to preserve phone battery and prevent thermal throttling.

Core Architectural Principles:

  • Zero Quality Loss (Pure Bit-for-Bit): Photos and 4K/8K video recordings are never re-compressed or downscaled. Every byte matches the exact camera output.
  • Zero Third-Party Middlemen: Transfers travel over HTTPS/TLS 1.3 directly from your device to your QuixiCloud vault using industry-standard WebDAV.
  • Isolated Device Vaults: Back up multiple Android devices (e.g., Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25) into the same account cleanly without filename collisions.
  • Privacy by Architecture: Zero tracking SDKs, zero ads, zero analytics cookies, and local credentials encrypted securely via Android Keystore.

2. Installation & The 3-Step Permission Wizard

After downloading the application (via Google Play Store or direct APK installation), the app guides you through a mandatory 3-step onboarding permission sequence designed to ensure background reliability:

StepAndroid PermissionWhy It Is Required
Step 1POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+)Enables the persistent foreground backup service notification showing live transfer speed and progress.
Step 2MANAGE_ALL_FILES_ACCESSGrants read access to documents, custom folders (e.g. WhatsApp Media, Downloads, DJI, Telegram), and SD cards.
Step 3IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONSSets app battery usage to "Unrestricted", preventing Android Doze mode from halting uploads when the screen is locked.
Aggressive OEM Battery Killers:Manufacturers like Samsung (OneUI), Xiaomi (HyperOS/MIUI), and OnePlus (OxygenOS) include aggressive RAM cleaners that kill background tasks. Granting Step 3 ("Unrestricted") ensures uninterrupted backups overnight while charging.

3. Generating WebDAV App Passwords in Web Dashboard

For enterprise-grade security, the Android app does not use your primary QuixiCloud account password. Instead, you create an isolated 26-character App Password dedicated to the mobile device. If your phone is ever misplaced, you can revoke this password instantly from your dashboard without changing your master credentials.

Tier Requirement: Automated native WebDAV background sync requires an active paid storage plan (Personal, Family, Pro, or Enterprise). Free tiers can preview the web suite.

Step-by-Step Dashboard Setup:

  1. Open your web browser and sign in to your dashboard at https://drive.quixicloud.com.
  2. In the left sidebar menu, locate and click Connect & Mount.
  3. Click the Create New App Password (or Add Device) button.
  4. Enter a recognizable name for your phone (e.g., Pixel 9 Pro or Galaxy Work Phone).
  5. Leave the root folder as / (or select a dedicated backup subfolder if desired).
  6. Click Generate. The dashboard will produce your secure credentials:
    • WebDAV URL: https://drive.quixicloud.com/dav
    • Username: Your QuixiCloud account email address.
    • App Password: A unique 26-character alphanumeric string (e.g., B6NQk3mX1Z7890abcdefghijkl).

4. In-App Login & WebDAV Handshake

Once your 26-character App Password is generated, open QuixiCloud Auto Sync on your phone to complete the initial connection:

  • WebDAV Account URL: Pre-filled with https://drive.quixicloud.com/dav.
  • Username: Enter your QuixiCloud registered email address.
  • App Password: Paste the 26-character token from your Web Dashboard.

Tap Connect Now. The engine executes a live WebDAV PROPFIND handshake with the server. Upon validating an HTTP 200 or 207 response, the app securely stores your access token in the hardware-backed Android Keystore and transitions to the main 5-tab application screen.

Keystore Security:Your password is never saved in plain text. It is encrypted with AES-256-GCM using hardware keys secured inside the device's Secure Element / Titan M chip.

5. Tab 1: Dashboard (Live Command Center)

The Dashboard is your real-time analytics and monitoring hub. It activates automatically as soon as a sync mode is selected in the Folder+ tab.

Key Dashboard Components:

  • Hero Protection Card:
    • Sync Progress Percentage: Displays overall completion percentage (0% - 100%).
    • Real-Time Transfer Speed: Shows live upload throughput (e.g. 18.4 MB/s) over Wi-Fi/5G.
    • Status Badge: Indicates whether sync is actively running, idle, or paused.
    • Background Safety Tag: Displays "You can safely close the app" when background workers are active.
    • Total Uploaded Counter: Sum of all gigabytes protected in your cloud vault.
    • Last Backup Timestamp: Relative time indicator (e.g. "Last backup: 8 mins ago").
  • Cloud Storage Capacity Meter: Live visual meter indicating total cloud storage quota used vs total plan allocation (e.g. 420 GB used of 2,000 GB). Automatically turns red when capacity exceeds 90%.
  • Bento Stat Grid:
    • Files Pending: Number of new photos or files queued for background upload.
    • Files Secured: Cryptographically verified files safely stored in the vault.
  • Storage Breakdown Visualizer: Live item count and byte breakdown across Photos, Videos, Audio, and Documents / Other.
  • Auto Free up Space ("Auto-Reclaim"):Identifies files ready to be purged from phone storage to prevent "Storage Full" warnings.
Cryptographic Hash Guarantee: QuixiCloud will neverdelete a file from your phone until it has verified that the remote copy's MD5/SHA checksum strictly matches your local file.
  • Offline & Network Loss Banner: Automatically displays an amber/red banner ("No Internet Connection. Syncing is paused.") if connectivity drops, resuming instantly once signal is restored.

6. Tab 2: Folder+ (Sync Modes & Exclusions)

The Folder+ tab defines what gets backed up from your Android device. You can choose from three dedicated modes:

Full Device Sync

Comprehensive protection covering all photos, video recordings, music, audio files, and documents across internal storage and mounted SD cards.

Mobile Photos Sync

Camera-only protection focusing strictly on DCIM/Camera. Ideal for users who only want automated photo/video roll backups.

Manual Folder Sync (Custom Selections):

Want to back up specific app directories without scanning your whole device? Manual Folder Sync lets you select up to 3 custom directories using Android's system document picker:

  • WhatsApp Media: Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media/
  • Telegram Downloads: Telegram/Telegram Documents/
  • Device Downloads & PDF Receipts: Download/
  • Screenshots / Screen Recordings: Pictures/Screenshots/

Auto Free Up Space Toggle:

Available inside each sync mode card. When switched on, files successfully uploaded and checksum-verified are automatically cleaned from your phone's internal storage, keeping your device running fast.

Excluded Folders (Blacklist):

Add directories that should never be backed up (e.g. temporary app caches, meme folders, voice notes, or sensitive directories). Files in excluded folders are completely ignored by the sync scanner.

7. Tab 3: Vault (Direct Cloud File Explorer)

The Vault tab provides a zero-footprint remote file manager. You can navigate your remote cloud files and folders directly over WebDAV without downloading them to your phone or consuming local storage.

Vault Features:

  • Streaming Media Viewer: Tap any photo or video in your vault to stream full-resolution media directly from the cloud.
  • Open in External Apps: Hand off vault files directly to Android apps like VLC player, Snapseed, or PDF readers.
  • Floating Action Menu (+):
    • New Folder: Create directories on your cloud vault via remote MKCOL commands.
    • Upload File: Select and upload specific files from your device directly into the current cloud directory.
  • Remote File Deletion: Delete unwanted cloud files with a confirmation dialog. (For bulk file operations, access the full web dashboard at drive.quixicloud.com).

8. Tab 4: Activity (Transfer Audit Trail & Logs)

The Activity tab provides complete transparency into what the sync engine is doing in the background. Every upload, hash check, and status change is recorded in a chronological audit log.

Log Filter Chips:

  • All: Full chronological log stream.
  • Success: Completed file transfers with exact bytes uploaded and timestamps.
  • System: Engine lifecycle events (network changes, Wi-Fi reconnection, service startup).
  • Warn: Non-critical warnings (e.g. sync paused due to battery threshold or Wi-Fi disconnection).
  • Error: Failed uploads or timeout exceptions with inspectable error stack traces.

Logs are grouped neatly by date (Today, Yesterday, etc.). Tapping an error item displays the detailed HTTP status code or I/O exception to simplify troubleshooting.

9. Tab 5: Settings (Engine Controls & Security)

The Settings tab gives you granular control over how and when the background engine synchronizes files:

Sync Preferences & Smart Triggers:

  • Wi-Fi Only Toggle: When enabled, sync pauses whenever the device is on mobile cellular data (LTE/5G) to conserve your carrier data plan.
  • Charging Only Toggle: Restricts heavy file uploads to when your phone is plugged in, preserving battery longevity.
  • Sync Delay / Debounce Slider (0 - 60 minutes): Sets a cooldown period after taking photos before the engine begins uploading. This gives you time to review and delete burst photos or unwanted shots before they are sent to the cloud.
  • Low Battery Shield Slider (5% - 50%): Automatically suspends all background sync operations whenever battery percentage drops below your chosen safety margin.
  • App Lock: Enforces biometric authentication (Fingerprint or Face Unlock) whenever the app is opened.
  • Space Management & Force Reclaim: If Auto Free Up Space is active, a "Force Now" button lets you trigger an immediate cleanup pass without waiting for scheduled cycles.

10. Sign Out & Remote Device Revocation

QuixiCloud protects your data during both device upgrades and unexpected phone loss:

In-App Sign Out Procedure:

  1. Open Settings in the Android app.
  2. Scroll to Account Security at the bottom.
  3. Tap Sign Out & Clear Cache.
  4. Safety Confirmation: To prevent accidental logouts during active transfers, the app asks you to type the word logout into the confirmation dialog.
  5. Confirming terminates all background WorkManager jobs, stops the foreground MirrorService, and purges local Room database cache. Your remote cloud files remain completely safe.

Remote Device Revocation from Web Dashboard:

If your phone is lost, stolen, or sold, you can revoke its access remotely from any computer:

  1. Sign in to your Web Dashboard at drive.quixicloud.com.
  2. Navigate to Connect & Mount.
  3. Find the device in the authorized App Passwords table.
  4. Under the Action column:
    • Switch to Read-Only: Device can still browse vault files but can no longer upload or modify content.
    • Delete App Password: Instantly invalidates the 26-character token. The phone will immediately receive HTTP 401 Unauthorized errors and be disconnected.

11. Troubleshooting & Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions:

  • If I delete a photo on my phone, does it get deleted from QuixiCloud?
No.By default, QuixiCloud operates as a true "safety net" backup. Deleting a photo from your phone's gallery or Google Photos does not delete the copy in your QuixiCloud vault. To remove a file permanently, delete it from the Vault tab or Web Dashboard.
  • Why does my sync status say "Sync Paused"?
    Check your Settings tab:
    • If Wi-Fi Only is ON, sync pauses on mobile data.
    • If Charging Only is ON, sync pauses when unplugged.
    • If battery percentage is below the Low Battery Shield threshold, sync pauses to preserve power.
  • My uploads stop when the phone screen turns off. How do I fix this?
Go to your phone's System Settings > Apps > QuixiCloud Auto Sync > Battery, and select "Unrestricted"(or disable "Battery Optimization"). This prevents OEM battery cleaners from killing the background service.
  • Are there individual file size limits?
No limits. QuixiCloud has zero individual file size caps. Whether you are uploading a 2MB photo or a 60GB raw 8K video, the engine streams it chunk-by-chunk over TLS 1.3.
  • Does the app work offline?
Yes. Any photos or files taken while offline are queued in the local Room database. The instant an authorized network connection is detected, the engine resumes uploads automatically.
